ABOUT THE TEACHER TRAINING

If you are searching for a program where you will receive full support, expert instruction, and lasting inspiration - the Bali training with Alicia Waters and Frog Lotus Yoga staff is the place for you! In this Yoga Teacher Training you will find a safe space to push your own edge in the physical practice, expand your knowledge of the foundations of Yoga, and connect deeply with yourself and your fellow students. You will emerge open-hearted, brimming with possibility, and fully prepared to teach!

FROG LOTUS YOGA

The Frog Lotus Yoga teacher training school was founded by Vidya Heisel in 2000. We teach a creative, dynamic, and intelligent Vinyasa flow style that can be adapted to all levels. The philosophy is based on the Eight Limbed Path of Patanjali, outlined in the Yoga Sutras. The asana practice is inspired by the energizing sun salutations of the Ashtanga practice, as well as the precise alignment of Iyengar Yoga. While we honor the tradition of Yoga, we are also passionate about safety and longevity for yogis and are continually adapting to the latest research in biomechanics and functional anatomy.

Frog Lotus Yoga (FLY) Vinyasa Teacher Trainings are  exceptionally high-quality, fully-comprehensive three-week intensives. Over 100 poses will be covered in-depth during the training, giving special attention to anatomical sequencing and skillful teaching methods. At the end of the training you will be fully qualified to teach Vinyasa Flow Yoga and its variations, such as Power Flow or Core Flow, as well as various levels of general Hatha Yoga classes.

"Before beginning my yoga teacher training with Frog Lotus Yoga, I had tremendously high expectations. Frog Lotus Yoga completely fulfilled my high hopes! The breadth of topics covered including philosophy, anatomy, Sanskrit, asana, assisting, history, business, and much more, were so thoroughly and carefully taught that it actually amazes me how much we were able to learn in 200 hours. Most importantly, I feel that I have come home with the resources I need to continue to grow. I have already recommended FLY to a friend. I was extremely happy with this program and feel truly proud to be able to call myself a graduate of this fine school." - Michelle K.

With over 10 years running, and thousands of successful graduates across the globe, FLY 200 Hour Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Trainings are some of the finest YTT programs available today. In addition to the in-depth philosophy and anatomy classes, particular strengths of our program are a focus on hands-on assisting and many hours of student teaching experience. There’s no substitute for experience when you're learning, so Frog Lotus Yoga Teacher Trainings prioritize practical experience over a solely lecture-based format.

"Choosing from the many Teacher Training programs out there was no easy task. Frog Lotus definitely turned out to be the right decision. The program is a guided process that prepares you well to confidently create and instruct your own classes. More than just an education, this was a life affirming experience. It increases your thirst for continuing education and a lifetime of learning the ancient tradition of Yoga." - Lissia R.

We constantly hear from our graduates how prepared they felt the first time they walked into a studio to teach. We’ve also had many students say they shocked their interviewers at studio auditions by delivering a competent, confident yoga class and then telling them they had only just recently graduated a 200 hour yoga teacher training program!

"I think what I took away from the training the most is learning how to teach effectively. Not just the physicality of the practice, but the language I use, how I hold space for the class, how I've found my seat as teacher, the readings I share, the music I play, the sequencing and themes that flow through my class. I feel a lot of my success as a teacher comes from your training, and for that I thank you." - Shawna T.

ABOUT

Imagine waking up to birds singing in the palm trees around your villa. You ready yourself for the day ahead and step out into the dawn light. The air is warm and full of the scents of tropical flowers and incense burning as you walk down the stone path to the yoga shala. Your fellow students are silently preparing for meditation and you join them, settling onto your cushion. The sounds of trickling water and croaking frogs (that give Frog Lotus Yoga its name) drift in from the surrounding rice paddies and you are completely absorbed in the present moment. Before you know it, the chimes ring to signal the start of asana practice. You begin to flow with the breath - feeling your power, your focus, and your aliveness. The sun streams into the open-air studio and you smile with gratitude, knowing this is exactly where you're meant to be...

INSTRUCTOR BIOS

Alicia Waters is an E-RYT500 with Yoga Alliance. Currently residing in the lovely seaside town of Mousehole in southwest England, she leads local classes as well as international retreats and trainings. She has been teaching yoga since 2010 and has been studying and practicing avidly since 2005. She completed a 200 hour foundation training and a 300 hour advanced training in Vinyasa Yoga, both with Vidya Heisel and Jennifer Yarro of Frog Lotus Yoga. Any teacher must also be a life-long student, and Alicia has continued her studies with additional training in mantra, anatomy, philosophy, and more with such modern yoga luminaries as Sianna Sherman, Shiva Rea, Amy Ippoliti, Tiffany Cruikshank, Anandra George, and Jim Tarran.

Since the beginning of her teaching career, Alicia has had the great privilege of sharing yoga with diverse students in studios, universities, spas, and community centers all over the globe. Originally from the East Coast of the US, she spent two years living and teaching at Suryalila Yoga Retreat Center in southern Spain before moving to Cornwall in February 2015. She has traveled extensively with Frog Lotus Yoga Teacher Training Programs as faculty instructor.

She and her husband received a Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) as a wedding gift in 2015 - on that fateful day, Alicia's love of SUP Yoga was born! Only a few months later, she completed the SUP Yoga certifcation from SUPFit, and now loves to share this amazing sport.

Alicia is known among her students for her clear instruction and joyful, encouraging demeanor. She is also certified in Thai Yoga Massage, which brings confidence and compassion to her physical adjustments. Her recipe for a great yoga class is to combine intelligent sequencing and consistent focus on the breath, then add total self-acceptance, a bit of inspiration, a dash of sweat, and a healthy dose of humor.

Jennilee8954c.jpg

Jennilee Toner is a student and teacher of yoga and human anatomy, and the author of The Perfect Chaturanga. She has been practicing Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga since 1996, teaching Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga since 2003, teaching experiential anatomy to yoga teachers in training since 2010, and teaching her own Hot Warrior Yoga 200 hour teacher trainings since 2012.

In 1996, after many years working as a deputy sheriff, training as a medic, military policewoman and drill sergeant for the US Army, and living in shock after the sudden death of her young mother, Jennilee found herself waking up to the fact that she wanted to be a kind and compassionate person. In that illumination, in that wanting, she found herself at her first yoga class. And there, standing in tree pose, weeping as the teacher read a poem about the unconditional giving of the earth’s trees, Jennilee, for the first time, felt the precious interconnectedness of all things. She has been a lover and practitioner of yoga ever since!

Jennilee has been through so many stages in her yoga journey, from Bikram 6 days per week to karma yoga with Yogi Hari at his ashram in Florida, to silent Vipassana retreats... her practice has been through a huge evolution and she loves to share it all!

Jennilee has also had the good karma to be part of the Ekhart Yoga team: first writing anatomy articles for the blog, then becoming one of the teachers on ekhartyoga.com and for the last two years teaching Embodied Yoga Anatomy for Esther Ekhart in her yoga teacher trainings.

After writing and self-publishing The Perfect Chaturanga and traveling with a two year around-the-world book and workshop tour, Jennilee's excitement and passion for teaching safe and intelligent yoga continues to grow. In addition, she has recently been certified in Buti Yoga which is a fun and challenging practice that combines tribal dance, plyometrics, cardio fitness and flow yoga. Much of her time is now shared between the loves of her life (Dan and our two fur-babies Papousa and Beagle Baby), teaching Buti Yoga and other fabulous yoga and fitness classes, and traveling both in the US and Europe spreading the good news that SAFE YOGA ROCKS!

There are many great restaurants serving delicious organic food and a thriving community to explore.

How to Get There

You will need to book a flight into Denpasar. If you arrive on the start date of the training, you will be met at the airport by a taxi to travel to Ananda Cottages. This will cost about $30 per taxi (you may be able to share with other students, depending on your flight schedule). If it is possible for you to arrive a little earlier to acclimate to the weather and the time zone, that is highly encouraged. You will need to plan the time outside of the training as you would your own travel, but we are happy to give suggestions and tips.

Visas

A 30 day tourist visa is available for citizens of most countries upon arrival at the airport in Bali (please research ahead of time if you are unsure of visa availability for your country of origin). This visa is included in the cost of your airline ticket and you do not have to pay on arrival (this is a change from previous policy if you've been to Bali before). Passports must have 6 months validity on entry. If you wish to stay longer you can apply for a 60 day visa in advance at an Indonesian Embassy in your country.

Excursions

During the training there will be two free afternoons per week. In the second week, there will be one full day off in place of one of the free afternoons. The free time gives opportunities to go on excursions, get massage, travel to the beach, or just enjoy exploring Ubud. We will be offering different (optional) excursions, such as going to see a Balinese dance, white water rafting on the beautiful Ayung river, going to Seminyak for shopping and restaurants, and hiking up a volcanic peak. The excursions will be offered at an additional cost.

BALI

$3995 USD / £3095 GBP for a spacious twin room (shared with one other trainee).

$4995 USD / £3895 GBP for a luxurious single room.

To help you budget: Travel expenses vary widely depending on where you are traveling from. I like Kayak.com for comparing flights. Course materials are the books mentioned above (approximately $130 USD together) as well as your props which you will need to bring (mat, strap, blanket, and a block). Excursions vary in price from about $15 - $30. Tipping is considerate, but not mandatory. Massage, shopping, and eating out are all very affordable. Students typically spend $300 - $500 USD on "extras" for the three weeks.

The typical payment schedule is a $395 USD or £295 GBP deposit due when you register, then 50% of the remaining balance due 60 days before the training starts, the other 50% due 10 days before the training starts. You must be paid in full to begin the training. Alternative payment plans are available, please email to inquire.

Scholarships

For the 2019 Bali training, we are thrilled to offer our first official scholarship program. The aim of the scholarship program is to increase equity and representation in the modern yoga world. Yoga is for everyone, but we recognize that there are many social and systemic barriers that can prevent marginalized populations from accessing the practice. If we neglect to directly address these barriers, yoga is stripped of its core values of non-harming and compassion, and is reduced to an exclusive and exclusionary fitness routine for those who benefit from social privilege. Financial accessibility is certainly a major barrier, and the scholarship fund was designed to address that. Therefore, preference will be given to students from marginalized groups (BIPOC, LGBTQ+, etc.) who intend to share the practice of yoga with their communities. (If you're not sure if this applies to you, don't be shy to ask!)

To request a scholarship application, email aliciawatersyoga@gmail.com

The scholarship is funded by individual donations (matched by Alicia) from past students and other members of the yoga community who believe in working to increase equity in yoga.
